Applying to Become a Member
Anyone who is able to document his or her lineal descent from one or more of the Mayflower passengers is eligible to apply for membership in the Mayflower Society. Not all passengers left descendants, but all society members descend from at least one of those known to have descendants.
To begin the membership application process, download and complete the application review form (MF_Review_Form). Fill it out beginning with the name of your Mayflower ancestor. On the next line, list his son or daughter and whom he or she married. Then, list the next son or daughter and his or her spouse, through the generations down to you. Then send the completed form to our historian.
After receiving the completed application review form, our historian will check with the General Society at Plymouth to see if any of your distant cousins previously applied. If they did, their application will supply documentation for the in-common portion of your line of descent – you will not need to “reprove” generations in your line that are already known to be valid by the Society. At the conclusion of that process, the historian will provide you an update letting you know the gap of knowledge between what the Society knows and has previously approved, and where you sit in your pedigree. That gap is what you will need to close if you should choose to further pursue the application/membership process.
If you agree to proceed, the historian will send you a working application that will contain all the data the Society knows about your line. It will also note where you will need to provide data and documentation to complete it. The historian will update the working application as you send in your source documentation, sending you the amended application to ensure you are always up to date on what gaps still remain. (For research tips, click above “Research” tab.)
Once you’ve completed the worksheet application, the historian will send you the final application ready for your signature. When you return this signed application, the historian will sign and check with the treasurer to ensure the membership application fee has been paid.

You may pay via this website, or the treasurer will send you an internet invoice via email. The signed application and associate documentation will then be sent to Plymouth for final review and approval. Please be patient during this approval period as Plymouth operates on a first come, first served basis. It can take two to three months. The historian will notify you when your application has been approved.
If you have specific questions about the documentation requirements and the application process, please contact our historian. By joining the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Utah, you automatically become a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, and you will be issued a Utah Society membership number and a General Society membership number. You will be entitled to all the benefits and privileges afforded to members, including a subscription to The Mayflower Quarterly.
